SWINDON TOWN: 'The next six games will shape the season'
7:00am Friday 3rd September 2010
TOWN boss Danny Wilson is targeting “three or four results” from their next six games in order to believe his side have finally turned the corner on their stuttering season.
After achieving a first win of the campaign at the sixth attempt on Tuesday night against Southampton in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, Swindon are now looking to take that level of performance into League One action.
They travel to unbeaten Carlisle tomorrow, but Wilson insists it is too early to tell whether their early season woes have been consigned to history.
“We’ll see that as we go along,” he said. “I don’t think you will be able to tell after Carlisle at all.
“We’ve got a clutch of games coming up now which, if we can get a run of three or four results from the next six, then you can say we are on our way forward.
“We just want to start creeping back up the league. We’re not cut adrift by any stretch of the imagination.
“If you look around at the divisions, I would like to see where the promoted teams were at this stage or even after 10 games. You’ll be quite surprised at the position some teams were in.
“So I’m not concerned about it at this moment in time, and what we are striving for is consistency.”
Meanwhile, Wilson has paid tribute to striker Thomas Dossevi after the Togo international put club before country to turn out at Brunton Park tomorrow.
The 31-year-old was called up for an African Cup of Nations qualifier away at Botswana, but has decided to stay put in a bid to break into the Town starting line-up.
Wilson said: “Thomas is going to stay with us, which is a boost for us going away from home to have another striker in the ranks.
“What pleased me was his commitment to us, and not wanting to go and play for a national team.
“That can be a big pull for players but he’s decided he wants to try and cement himself in the club here and learn the English football way.”
