FROM THE DUGOUT: Wilson's delight at Brighton win

TOWN boss Danny Wilson hailed one moment of quality from his side as they picked up a first win in four attempts away at Brighton yesterday.

Charlie Austin's second half effort was the only goal of the game and handed Swindon a major boost in their quest for a top-six finish.

And Wilson was delighted to come away with all three points from a difficult afternoon at the Withdean Stadium.

“It was a great win and I am delighted," he said.

“We really, really wanted to get three points here and our work ethic went into overload. It was absolutely fantastic for us.

“It was very difficult because the pitch was so bobbly, but the little pockets of football we did play we caused them problems.

“We didn't do enough of it, but one of the real bits of quality that we did put together, we ended up getting a goal from it, so that was a big bonus for us.

“They (Brighton) were bound to have a few chances, and the two wide boys (LuaLua and Bennett) caused us problems at times.

“They are good players and we knew they would, but thankfully Phil (Smith) has come to our rescue right at the death there.

“Defensively we kicked everything and headed everything like we had to when we were under real pressure at times."

Wilson was pleased with the performance of debutant Stephen Darby, who only signed on loan from Liverpool on Thursday.

The full-back looked steady against a tough opponent in Kazenga LuaLua, and Wilson believes Darby will only get better.

“It was always going to be difficult for Stephen," he said.

"There’s a massive difference between the reserves and what he played in out there.

“But I thought he came onto a game as he went along. Maybe he was a bit nervous early on in the first half, and didn't know anything about the players he was up against.

“It's an unknown entity for him, but this will put him in good stead for the rest of his time with us."

The boss also reserved praise for winger Mark Marshall, who came off the bench to play a key role in the win.

“Mark has got bundles of energy and enthusiasm and in fairness to him he hasn't had a big shot at playing games, simply because of the players we've got at the club," said Wilson.

“But when I looked at the shape of the team and how we had to go on, I thought the way the game was going he was perfect for us.

“He never gets disappointed. He will lose a ball, a pass, or doesn't get on the end of something, and won't get disappointed – he will just go again instead.

“A lot of lads can learn a lot from him in that respect.”
